Relax and Unwind with Recliner ChairsIf you’re old enough to have watched ‘Friends’ when it was on TV, you’ll remember Joey and Chandler’s leather La-Z-Boy recliner – these chairs have never really gone out of fashion, and even if they aren’t the most stylish piece of furniture around, they’re so comfortable for relaxing in that you won’t even care! Today’s recliner chairs are far cooler than those around in the early 90’s, so take a few moments to read through our guide to recliner chairs and see whether they’re the right product for you.
Choosing the Right Recliner
When it comes to choosing the best recliner chair, you’d be forgiven for thinking that it only matters what it looks like – after all, it’s a piece of furniture, right? Wrong. There are three different types of recliner, so you need to know exactly what you’re shopping for before you buy.
• Traditional recliners – these feature two positions and allow users to recline fully, with a foot rest that pops out when the chair is reclined. These are the most affordable types of recliner chairs, and are usually covered in leather, with less visible parts of the chair covered in co-ordinating vinyl
• Rocker recliners – these chairs benefit from a variety of reclining angles and can be ‘rocked’ whilst sat upright. Whilst they’re incredibly popular, they can be harder to adjust from reclined to an upright position – this is usually done with the use of a handle or by pushing the footrest down.
• Push back recliners – sleeker than other recliners, it’s actually only the back of the chair that reclines, and a matching ottoman is usually bought with the chair as a footrest. Most of these recliner chairs come completely covered in leather, making them a stylish, modern option that is somewhat more expensive than a traditional recliner
• Power recliners - this type of recliner is very similiar to the traditional recliner chair but instead of a button or lever that spreads out the recline positition, you press a button and the recliner spreads out electrically. Can be adjusted to recline in more angles.
Once you’ve decided on the right type of recliner, it’s a case of choosing extra features, such as the colour, material and any add-ons you would like. Leather recliner chairs usually come in a range of colours, but chocolate brown, black and cream are three of the most popular contemporary shades. Bright red leather recliners make a real style statement in neutrally decorated apartments.
Today’s recliners come with a whole host of modern features, from built-in phones and entertainment screens to drinks holders, fridges, massage pads and more.
Take your time to think about what you really need and how far your budget can stretch when shopping for a recliner, and try to look on two or three different sites to compare prices before buying.
